Albendazole, an organic compound with the chemical formula C12H15N3O2S, is an imidazole derivative class of broad-spectrum enteroinsect repellent drugs. It was discovered by GlaxoSmithKline's Animal Health laboratory in 1972. Albendazole has been included in the World Health Organization's Model List of Essential Medicines and is one of the most important essential health medicines.
Albendazole is a broad spectrum deworming drug with high efficiency and low toxicity. It can be used to deworm roundworm, pinworm, tapeworm, whipworm, hookworm, strongylostrongylus faecalis and so on. After metabolizing to sulfoxides or sulfones in the body, it inhibits the absorption of glucose by the parasite, leading to the depletion of glycogen, or inhibits the fumarate reductase system, blocking the production of ATP, so that the parasite cannot survive and reproduce.
