The functions of common-mode inductors
What are the functions of common-mode inductors?
The size of common-mode inductors will directly affect the performance of EMC. Its main function is to isolate common-mode signals and attenuate external common-mode interference, thereby reducing the impact on the power supply. It can also attenuate internal common-mode signals and reduce the impact on the power grid.
However, a large common-mode inductor has a good suppression effect on low-frequency disturbances, but may deteriorate on high frequencies, while a small inductance has a poor suppression effect on low-frequency disturbances.
Usually, we often see X capacitors, Y capacitors and a common-mode inductor added to the input end of the power module. The capacitor has low impedance to the signal and plays the role of bypassing and decoupling the signal. The inductor has high impedance to the signal and plays the role of reflecting and absorbing high-frequency interference si…
